MANCHESTER UTD V/s ARSENAL

After an inspiring win over Wigan , United were looking confident in welcoming one of their title rivals to Old Trafford. United had 6 points from three matches , on the other hand Arsenal had 9 points from their 3 games. So not surprisingly Arsenal has started the season better than United. While Fergie led the head-head to win count over Wenger by 15-14.
United and Arsenal entered the pitch with pretty much same formation . Giggs failed to play Rooney in a couple of situations in the first half.Fletcher missed a half chance. On the other end van Persie's shot was blocked by Evra. And Arshavin missed the top corner very narrowly.
Mins later Arshavin was brought down by Fletcher with a very ugly looking challenge and got away with it.

But within a few seconds Arshavin proved he doesn't need a penalty to score a goal for his team. From almost 25 yards , without any back lift Arshavin curved the ball behind Foster.

Arsenal raised the tempo of the game very early in the second half. Its the same old Russian who pierced the United defence and gave lovely cross to van Persie which forced a great save from Foster.
In the 58th min Giggs succeeded in putting the ball through the eye of a needle which enabled Rooney in winning a penalty for United which he eventually scored to level the game.

Just 5 mins later Giggs curved a free-kick towards the Arsenal net which perplexed Diaby who ended up in scoring an own goal.

Even though van Persie struck the cross bar , Arsenal failed to convert couple of half chances.
Berbatov missed a great chance in the stoppage time after a great ball from Nani. Later Nani's attempt was also denied by Almunia .
There was more drama at the end of the stoppage time when Arsene Wenger was sent to the stands for his reaction on the touchline to Arsenal's disallowed goal.

Wayne Rooney was the Man of the match.

Match of the day - 22nd Aug

MANCHESTER UNITED:

Sir Alex Ferguson's team had gone into the game at the DW Stadium with growing doubts over the strength of their firepower following the 1-0 midweek defeat against Premier League newcomers Burnley.
Ferguson's men appeared to be on course for another frustrating ninety minutes as they missed a series of first-half chances.
Just mins after the kick-off Berbatov played Nani into the box and Nani gave a low cross to Fletcher which was blocked by Bramble. Mins later Berbatov gave cheeky back pass to Scholes who uncharacteristically blazed over with a free shot from 20 yards.
Only a crucial Evra challenge ten yards from goal denied Rodallega a clear strike at goal and goalkeeper Foster was forced to produce a stunning save from Koumas after the Welsh midfielder had embarrassed Neville with a swift turn midway inside the United half.Mean while Vidic was spot-on with his challenges, didn't get any of them wrong through out the match.
In the second half united's attack seemed sharp and swift which resulted in a 5-0 win away from home. In the 55th min former Wigan winger Valencia ran down the wigan defence before producing a lovely cross to Rooney who headed it home beautifully to join the elite group of united players who has scored more than 100 goal for the club.

Min later Foster saved a dangerous header from Rodallega. United are known for their counter attack. In the 57th min Rooney & Scholes combined together to put Berbatov in front of the goal. Berbatov used his elegant touch to chip the ball over Kirkland and displayed great balance to finish the united's second goal of the match.

Rooney's second goal, a deflected strike off the right leg of Melchiot, put United out of sight.

All it needed to cap the victory was a goal from Owen who came in as a substitute in the 70th min. In the 84th min Owen guided a left-foot shot into the far corner after being released by Nani, who netted a stoppage time free-kick to make it 5-0.

Final score was Wigan 0-5 Manchester United.....

English Premier League Fixtures:

It promises to be another season of high drama in England's top-flight. Here's everything you need to know ahead of this campaign's action.

Two months of hibernation comes to an end , as all the teams will heat up the football world.

MANCHESTER UNITED 2009-10

FIXTURES AND PLANS FOR 09-10:

United have played six games, travelled more than 16,000 miles and crossed seven time zones over the past fortnight as they have taken their first steps towards adjusting to life without Ronaldo.
The Portuguese forward contributed a staggering 68 goals over his final two seasons at Old Trafford, campaigns in which United scored 119 (2008-09) and 110 (2007-08) goals in all competitions.
Without the 24 year-old, Ferguson concedes that United's tactics must evolve so that the goal scoring burden falls on several shoulders rather than those of just one man.
Despite impressing on the club's tour of the Far East, scoring four goals in four games, the jury is still out on Michael Owen's ability to rediscover his best form.
Dimitar Berbatov is another who must raise his game this season after scoring just 14 goals following his £30.75 million club-record transfer from Tottenham last season.
But while challenging his forwards to increase their goal output, Ferguson admits that there will be a collective responsibility throughout the squad as United aim to become the first club to win four successive league titles.
Ferguson said: "Cristiano is obviously a big loss in terms of the goals he gave us. If we're going to win the league again or do well in Europe, we certainly need players to step up and help fill the gap left by Ronaldo."
A worrying issue for Ferguson will be the lack of pace displayed by Owen and Berbatov during the Audi Cup draw against Bayern Munich. Ronaldo's blistering pace often proved devastating for United.
An increase in the goals from midfield would curtail United's front-line deficiencies -none of whom scored more than four goals last season and must aim for double figures this season.
Owen and Rooney, despite an impressive record of 23 goals in 29 games as a strike-partnership with England, have not played one minute together during United's six pre-season fixtures.
