Manchester United hosted struggling Portsmouth this Wednesday at Old Trafford.It was 600th appearance for Paul Scholes in the colours of Manchester United.
After a win over Porto with the help of a spectacular goal from almost 35 yards by Ronaldo, Man Utd were looking bit relaxed.
In the 9th min Anderson gave exquisite aerial pass to Giggs,who gave a low cross to Rooney who scored against his national teammate James .

Mins later Rooney played in Giggs . It was relatively an easy chance to Giggs which was brilliantly saved by James .
Ronaldo played Giggs once again into the box , but Giggs couldn't finish it off.
Manchester utd finished the first half with 1 goal lead in hand without much trouble from Portsmouth.
In the second half Pompey tried better than first half. Johnson outwitted Rooney and tried to gave a low cross which was pushed away by Van der Sar. That was the only effort which tested Man utd goal keeper.
Again Giggs had nice chance to increase the lead but James did extremely good job to keep him away from the goal.
In the 76th min Anderson was replaced by Carrick who did the impact very soon in the 82nd min. Scholes gave a lovely ball to Carrick who finished beautifully to score his 3rd goal of the season to confirm three points for the champions .

As the final whistle signalled Manchester United's elevation three points above Liverpool, Old Trafford shook to mass chant of "are you watching Merseyside?".


Final score was Manchester United 2-0 Portsmouth.....
